Where To Dine At Saigon

If you happen to visit Saigon, chances are you will be looking for a place that would give you a pleasant dining experience. We did! My family loves "food trips" a lot and whenever we visit a new place either within or outside the country, we would normally try new dishes either from a decent restaurant, a fast food or even street foods, should an opportunity arises. During the family's last day at Saigon, I insisted to bring the kids to this BBQ Garden Restaurant which I happened to know from the reviews that I've read on Trip Advisor.  Previous customers have mentioned that this place is famous for locals and always jam packed with people.  This is the reason why at first, I was a bit reluctant to try the place.  Call it a coincidence, but since we were not able to find the place so soon, we ended up having our late lunch at past 2 PM.  As expected, there was a less crowd that time and we were able to enjoy the full attention of the service crew at the restaurant.

There's nothing much special about the place.  It is an open air restaurant with lots of plants and fresh air.  But we loved their foods!  My kids enjoyed grilling our fresh meats and sea foods right on our own table and  they served us with a variety of dips and sauces that made us appreciate the dishes more.

There were only several customers at that time which gave us an opportunity to enjoy the place more.

The foods served were priced reasonably, nothing to complain.  Staff were also attentive, but my daughter did not like the idea that they would from time to time come near to the table and grill the foods for us.  My kids wanted to enjoy the experience that's why I politely request the waitress to leave us. (lol).

This wouldn't probably be the case should we go there on peak hours.  Overall, we loved the place.  It's simple, but we love the ambiance and the foods.  My son even commented that, why did we only visit that restaurant on our last day at Saigon. :)

BBQ garden is located right in the heart of District 1 close to many tourist attractions, so it would be easy for you to visit the place after the city tour.

Suoi Tien Theme Park at Saigon

If you're planning to have a trip to Ho Chi Minh City, more popularly known as Saigon, I recommend that you take time to visit Suio Tien Theme Park.  Having visited Saigon a number of times, I would say that this beautiful city of Vietnam has a lot to offer compared to it's capital, Hanoi where mostly you could only find beaches.  The first out of the country trip of my kids is actually in Saigon and they have really enjoyed the theme parks there as well as our food trips.  Everything is cheap at Vietnam, I think even cheaper as compared to Bangkok.  The only difference is that Bangkok has lot more to offer in terms of shopping.

Anyway, I will be featuring more of Vietnam in my future posts but for now, I want to share our Suio Tien Theme Park adventure.

Suio Tien is located at Than Pu Ward District 9, Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam.   This is not a Disneyland type of theme park where you could see a lot of Disney characters in their colorful suits, neither you can see much of mascots and the likes.  Suio Tien is a mixture of entertainment and an expression of Vietnam's cultural heritage.  Inside the huge theme park, you could see a lot of giant statues of Buddhas in different forms and shapes.  This place s popular among locals and this would be a best opportunity for you to interact with Vietnam people and know more about their culture.

Everything is colorful inside the theme park and you wouldn't run out of photo opps (lol).  Below are samples of what you can see inside the park.

There are lots of interesting attractions that you could see inside the theme park and that includes various rides and haunted house.

Entrance to the Haunted House

There's also a Lazer Zone wherein the entrance fee is much cheaper as compared to Manila

Entrance to the Crocodile Farm

4D theater

There is also a mini zoo inside the park.

You will really forget the passing of time while inside the park.  There are lots of stalls where you can buy some snacks and a food court if you prefer a heavier meal.  Inside, there are also souvenir shops where you can get some good items for "pasalubong".

You will be amazed by the price.  Entrance fee is only VND80K or about $4 but this does not include the rides.  But I think that it is not a problem at all since each ride will only costs you around $1. This park is an amazing value for what you pay. You may also opt to bring some swim suits as there is also a water park inside with giant pools and slides.

Overall, I find that visiting Suoi Tien Theme Park is indeed a good experience for the whole family.

Where to Stay At Phnom Penh

In every place I visit, I always have a favorite place to stay.  Not that I'm scared to explore and discover other nice hotels but because I don't want to take a risk of spoiling my visit to the place with an unpleasant experience in the hotel.  I had visited Phnom Penh (capital of Cambodia) a number of times since this is the only place that we could go to shop and take time out from work when I was still assigned at Sihanoukville.  Besides, we usually go to Phnom Penh to renew our passport and Visa.  I had booked on few hotel before upon friends recommendation but I ended up choosing Silver River Hotel as my place to stay when in Phnom Penh.

Silver River hotel is strategically located near the river side where lots of good restaurants and bars can be found.  It is  also near to some tourist attractions like the National Museum and Royal palace.  It's one "tuk-tuk" ride to the Central Market, the famous Russian market and Sorya Mall. Outside the hotel, you can find a lot of "tuk-tuk" service, just use your bargaining skills and you're all set to visiting the nearby attractions within the city.

Silver River hotel is just a simple hotel but complete with almost everything that you need for a comfortable stay.  The facilities are nice and clean and staff are warm and friendly especially the restaurant staff.

The friendly "tuk-tuk" driver who brings me to the Russian Market :)

I was lucky that someone had recommended this "tuk-tuk" driver to me.  He speaks a very little English but I can communicate with him using a little "English", basic Khmer language that I've acquired while staying at Cambodia plus a little of "body language".  That's more than enough to survive with my trip. (lol)

There are a number of good restaurants at Phnom Penh although shopping is very limited.  However, if you are after getting some souvenir items, then there's a lot of options to choose from and two of my favorites are the central Market and Russian Market where you could get a number of affordable items like silk, home decors, linens, key chains, post cards, scarves, sarong and other silver ware products.

By the way, Silver River Hotel is priced at $29 per night for a double room with free buffet breakfast.  You may also want to try their in house massage which is priced at $5/hr for the regular massage and $7 for an oil massage.  That's considered cheap!

So when you happen to visit Phnom Penh, try booking at Silver River Hotel, a recommended accommodation at Phnom Penh.
