Chantaburi Thailand - Home of Precious Gems

I had the privilege to visit Chantaburi, one of the most visited provinces in Thailand numerous times as I was working right in the Cambodia-Thailand boarder which is just an hour away from Chantaburi.  I usually visit the place during my scheduled off days from work.  I am staying in a suburb and I don't have much places to go within the area so my only option is to travel to Chantaburi.  I am really comfortable staying at Chantaburi as it is a quiet town, less crowded than Bangkok but offers a lot of things from nice views and parks, malls, temples, beaches, rivers and lakes, restaurants and the famous gems market where Chantaburi is known for. There are lots of  business travelers at Chantaburi especially those engaged in jewelry business. If you opt to find some precious stones at an affordable price, Chantaburi is the place to be.

It is not surprising to find some fine hand crafted jewelries on any local shops in the city at a very cheap price.  In fact, I saw something similar to Kendra Scott jewelry here. Until now, I still regret why I am not able to buy few pieces of jewelries here.  I am not expecting that I would leave my job soon.  Every time I was in Chantaburi, I always delay my plan to buy jewelries as I was thinking that time that I would be around the place more often anyway so I still have a lot of opportunities to buy what I want.  But my sudden decision  to resign from my job came as a surprise and that time, I don't have much days off left so I wasn't able to plan any short travels away from my job site.  Too bad but anyway, I'm hoping that I would still have the chance to visit Thailand in the near future and I would certainly love to be back at Chantaburi, the home of precious gems. :)

Eat All You Can Dinner at Jades Hotel and Restaurant : Olongapo City

After we attended a Saturday afternoon mass, we went to Ayala Malls to have a walk and it was not long enough when we feel that it's time for the much awaited dinner.  We usually dine out on Saturdays as this is the only time that we are all complete and free from our responsibilities.  It was not our original plan to dine at Jade's.  I was expecting that we're just be eating either on one of the many restaurants at Ayala Malls or at we will go back to Kong's Restaurant as we really liked there the last time.

I was surprised that Edmar volunteered to treat us to an eat all you can dinner at Jade's Hotel and Restaurant which is situated just opposite Kongs at Magsaysay Drive.  It was actually my first time to visit the place but not for Edmar and Mika as they'd been there several times with their Dad.

The place is not too big and the ceiling of the restaurant is very low.  The interiors is not that superb, nothing really special.

Their placemats on the table are would you believe?  Manila paper! Yes, you heard it right.  Not much qualms about it, maybe they resorted to that as they only offer "ëat all you can" dinner and maybe that's the easiest way to get rid of the mess on the tables. lol

Anyway, the price of the buffet is Php180/head with a free glass of Iced Tea.  Not bad!  The foods served on the buffet is considered acceptable for the price.  Not too many varieties but it's basically complete from appetizers to sweets.  I couldn't take photos of the what were served on the buffet.  There were few tables occupied that time and people come and go.  I suddenly felt shy to take pictures. :)

This is the entrance to the restaurant.  Nothing special but I would not mind going back to this place next time we want to have a really filling dinner.  The foods served were just nice for the price and if you're just looking for a nice dinner minus the ambiance, then this place could be worth a try! :)

The New Kong's Restaurant : Olongapo City

It's like been ages since the last time I've visited Kongs Restaurant in the heart of Magsaysay Drive in Olongapo City.  I have fond memories of this restaurant which is considered one of the pioneers in the city.  I remembered this place to be the favorite party venue of the family. Not only that, this is the restaurant that we used to go whenever we feel like dining out for a change.

My late father loved this restaurant so much that he will always invite family friends on such special occasions where we had to host a dinner or lunch.  Well, I think the most obvious reasons were the affordable price, the restaurant's ambiance, the service and the foods.  It's like a decent restaurant where you can have peace and quiet while dining with your family and friends.  A good place for chats and meetings. :)

What I admired most about this resto is how the management treat their employees.  I guess this is the reason why you would normally see older food service crew and waiters in this restaurant. They have remained loyal to the company and they were never replaced with younger ones, either.

This is one good reason why I love the place.  If they can value their employees, how much more their guests? :)

the newly renovated Kong's Restaurant

This establishment was closed for about a couple of years as this was eaten by a fire outbreak, the date I cannot recall.  The building was now renovated but the second floor where they usually hold parties and function is not yet operational.  I was amazed with the newly renovated Kongs.  The interior is now elegant and up to date.  They also improved on their menu selection.  Best of all, they are now serving quick meals and food combos which are a way cheaper than their original price before.  Now dining here becomes even more affordable.

Since we just prefer to have a lighter meals that time, we opted for the combo meals plus an order of special bihon.  The price is not that bad considering the ambiance and the location of the restaurant.

We're still planning to go back there and try their other foods.  I think it's worth a visit whenever you get the chance to pass by along Magsaysay Drive in Olongapo.

It is located just beside PAGCOR casino and operates from 10AM until 10 PM.
