Where to Buy Computers at Cambodia

During my almost 7 years stay in Cambodia, I've managed to buy a laptop and several netbooks.  As an OFW, it is a must that you have your own personal laptop for your daily needs like your means of communication with your family and also to assist you in your professional needs.  When it comes to computer shops in Cambodia, I am not so comfortable buying in any shop.  Sometimes, I can't avoid but to doubt the authenticity of the products that I wish to buy. Since the first company that I've worked with in Cambodia was getting all computer supplies and equipment from PTC, I've decided to also get my personal laptop and other computer parts and peripheral from the same supplier.

I think that I have made the right choice. Not only PTC is a reliable computer shop in Cambodia, it also has several branches all over the country. I remembered that when I moved to my second company, my netbook had probably reached it's life span as I just woke up one morning that I can't power it on. I was staying in suburb then and going to the capital city is about 5 hrs drive away from my work place.  It's a good thing that there is a PTC branch at the city of Battambang which is just more than an hour drive from my place.  It's not as complete as the main branch in Phnom Penh though but you can get the basic things that you would probably need.  Not that you could get a  propellerhead software but at least it can cater to your needs in case of an emergency.

I was able to get a Toshiba netbook on my last purchase and I'm happy to say that it's working just fine until now.  So if you're happen to be touring at Cambodia and wanted to buy computer parts and equipment or you want your laptops repaired, I think it would be safe to go to this shop and by the way, they sell the most affordable, too.

Nha Hang Mon Hue Restaurant at Saigon

During our trip to Saigon, one of the best things that we've enjoyed much aside from visiting theme parks was "food trips".  I love Vietnamese foods a lot.   The way they prepare and cook their foods is a bit similar to Filipino foods only that theirs have more flavors and can be very spicy at times.  Majority of their dishes have veggies.  Maybe this is the reason why very seldom would you see an obese Vietnamese.  Majority of them are slim and petite. :)

Very close to the hotel where we've stayed at District is a restaurant named Mon Hue.  This is an average type of restaurant which served mostly local dishes.  As we wanted to get that experience with local dishes, we've considered dining in at that restaurant after we came back from a whole day trip to Damsen Theme Park.  Unfortunately, the foods that we've ordered are not much to our liking especially to my two big kids who just tried Vietnam dishes for the first time.  Even me who's quite familiar to Vietnam dishes did not really enjoy the foods.  Needless to say, though we've enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant, we did not go back there for another dining experience and just decided to try Vietnamese foods elsewhere.

If you are a Filipino and you happen to visit Saigon, I would recommend you to try other restaurants around the central district or for that kind of experience, you may try the ones located on the alleys.  They really served more delicious foods there minus the comfort and convenience as the areas are usually crowded and mostly patronized by the locals, though you can still see a lot of foreigners eating there.

After all, you've never been to Vietnam if you won't try these alley restaurants. :)

Where to Buy Gold At Bangkok?

Bangkok is not only famous for shopping, it is also famous for golds.  The last time I've visited China town, I've seen a number of gold shops along the main road and I've noticed that majority of the people visiting the shops are businessmen.  I got this idea when I happened to enter one shop and overheard the conversation of one buyer and the shop owner.  It so happened that the conversation was in English as the buyer is a foreigner so I was able to understand their conversation.

Thai Baht gold is recognized in the world for the high quality of it's gold thus jewelries sold at Bangkok are know for the high gold content and baht gold jewelry is always sold by actual product weight.

There are a number of gold shops along the main street of China town the reputable stores that's normally being recommended by the locals there can be found at Yaorawat Road in Chinatown.  I haven't tried buying one in the area though I've been there a number of times maybe because I'm too scared to try. Prior to visiting Thailand, I normally find jewelry on Facebook.  I just thought that it's the easiest way to find quality jewelries.  Having been to Thailand had changed my perception though as I've seen many fine crafted jewelries at a more affordable price.  Should I've stayed longer in Thailand when I was still working in Cambodia, I might have considered selling jewelry as a business coz I think that Thai Baht gold is not really hard to offer in the market due to it's high quality.  if you're planning to add up to your jewelry collection, you may try to visit Bangkok and don't forget to have a stop over at China Town. :)

The Famous Pho 24 at Saigon

Pho 24 is a famous fast food chain in Saigon, traditionally, they serve their signature dish Pho which means soup in Vietnam.  Pho is made out of beef or chicken stock with rice noodles and thin slices of beef, pork or chicken.  You can find Pho 24 almost anywhere in Saigon.  In fact this famous fast food chain Vietnam can also be found in Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines and other neighboring countries in South East Asia. Theres' nothing really special at Pho 24 from my own experience dining there.  I've been getting a lot of good comments about the place, thus I was curious and eager to try their famous Pho.  When we had a family vacation at Saigon, I took the chance to bring my teens there.  They never love soup, though so They've just tried other dishes.  As for me, I believe that my Pho 24 experience will never be complete without ordering their Pho, so that would always be my order every time I got the chance to dine at Pho 24.

Another observation that I have though about Pho 24 is that I've found that their foods are a bit overpriced especially the Pho.  You can have more delicious Vietnam Pho along the sidewalks and much cheaper, too. The price of Pho at Pho 24 is normally at VND50K per bowl which is about double theprice of a bowl of the Pho that you could get from alleys.  No wonder why Pho 24 is normally being patronized by tourists and expats but majority of the locals never eat there.

Since trying a bowl of Vietnamese Pho must be a part of your Saigon experience, I would still insist you to try a bowl or two.  At any rate, Pho can be found anywhere in Saigon and one of the best Pho restaurant can be found at District 3.  If I can still recall, I think the name of the place is Pho Anh.  I just happened to be at this place once when I was roaming along District 3 and this is how I discovered the place.

having tried majority of the foods at Vietnam, I would say that most of their local dishes are great and very affordable.  This is the reason why, touring at Saigon is more economical and fun.

If you happen to visit Saigon, you can drop by at Pho 24 restaurant located at 23-25 Tran Nhat Duat St | Tan Dinh Ward, District 1Ho Chi Minh CityVietnam.  This is more convenient for you as this is just along the central district area where the famous Ben Thanh market is located.

Musical Trip

I remembered having a musical trip with my friends from way way back.  It was called a musical trip because we hopped from one bar to the other trying to find a perfect perfect stage performer whom we intend to hire for a private party.  The experience was really great, not only we are able to see various bars on that long road, but we also get to enjoy the scenery along the short journey.   We have several criteria in mind. It could be a solo performer or a live band, it doesn't really matter as long as they could entertain us with their song numbers.  The whole idea was that we do not want that private party to be idle.  There should be some sort of entertainment to get the guests occupied.  Nobody wants a boring party right?

That musical trip was perfect, we were able to discover a new hang out and also discovered a place serving good foods and drinks. As we entered the place, we could already hear the loud applause from the audience while the group was playing a powerful song originally rendered  by a local artist whom I forgot the name unfortunately. You could already feel the "party mode" upon entering the place equipped with a power amps from musicians friend.  Well, at least, that's how I assumed, as I could hear the intense sound system on the background.. :)  Needless to say, my friend and office mate approached the Bar Manager and asked for the availability of the performers for a scheduled private party.  We were not successful though as the group was already booked on our chosen date.  We son't have another option but to look for others on that same road where bars and night clubs area really too close to each other.  We did not fail in our attempt as at last, few minutes after midnight, we were bale to book a group of performers for our party.  It was blessing in disguise!  They charged us cheaper and theirs was a great and wonderful performance. This made our party really memorable and we could see that everybody enjoyed to bits.

Thanks for that musical trip. We were able to hit two birds n one stone! :)

Air Asia Seat Sale

If you are planning for domestic or international trip this October until April of next year, I think this is the best time to book your flight as Air Asia is having a big seat sale promo that's truly hard to resist.  Their Red Hot Piso sale is back! You have to hurry up as this could only be availed until March 2 for travels  from October 2014 until April 2015.

I have personally checked their website and they are having a seat sale to some international destinations, too.  But because it's a huge sale, seats are easily filled up, but we still can take our chances to this once in a lifetime opportunity.  Head on to Air Asia website for more details. :)

Music For Travelers

There are certain songs that when when we hear take us immediately to certain place.  Have you ever wondered why we always listen to our MP3 or IPAD when we travel?  This is so because, music increases our desire to see a new place or simply to enjoy a journey with a friend or loved one.  In fact, through music, we can connect to other travelers even when we speak different languages.

For me, it is always a pleasure to visit a place and indulge into good music.  Hearing good music played by those  musicians using their best epiphone prophecy les paul custom really entertains me.

When I was in Cambodia last time, I usually hear songs being played whenever I eat in the local restaurants but Khmer songs are usually played and very seldom would you hear English songs, but I still  can relate to their kind of music just by appreciating the rhythm  and this what makes music unique as a way of interacting with people from other places.  As a matter of fact, I've learned to appreciate songs from other countries though I really never understand the message these songs convey.  I have a number of foreign songs of different language saved on my playlist and i used to listen to these from time to time.

Now that I'm back home after almost seven years of working abroad, I'm happy that I was able to understand other people's culture through their songs and for me, this is one kind of experience that I will never forget as a traveler.

Travel Quote For The Day

Why do we travel?   Is it a necessity or just an indulgence?  Travelling is as necessary as eating foods and having a shelter. We cannot stay and survive in one place.  We need to move around and discover places. Only then we can satisfy our curiosity and let go of our new discoveries.  There's too many wonders in the world that's too hard to pass up. Travelling enables us to open the windows of the world, to see what's beyond the mountains and the seas.  It can make us realize so many good things that life has to offer.  The world is waiting for us.  Let's grab the opportunity to see the beauty of the world. I know that travelling has been difficult to some because of it requires us to spend a great sum of money but with proper planning and saving, this thing is no longer a dream now a days especially so that there are so many budget airlines coming up into the scene.  This made travelling an affordable option to those who want to relax and escape from our normal routines.
